Scene Unseen: Write your own play!

The 2025 Wandsworth Fringe takes place in June and, in the year Wandsworth becomes London Borough of Culture, it promises to be bigger and better than ever! New Stagers are planning once again to take our place amongst the best creative talent in Southwest London with 'Scene Unseen'.

What is Scene Unseen?

• 'Scene Unseen' is a selection of short, original plays, written, performed and directed by New Stagers members.

What do I need to know about writing a play?

• This is the perfect chance to try your hand at writing in a supportive and friendly environment. There's no theme, so let your imagination run wild, but bear in mind that lighting, set and costume are all very limited. Please also stick to the following guidelines:

• The running length for each play is limited to a maximum of 15 minutes

• There is a 5-actor limit

• You must submit a finished script.

• Material must be your own (we don't want to get sued!)

• The submission deadline is Sunday, 2 March. A total of 5 plays will be selected to be performed, with the plays being read by an independent judging panel. Most people direct their own play, but if you'd prefer to find a director we can try to help.

• New to the group? To have your show performed as part of 'Scene Unseen', you will be required to join and become a member of New Stagers. Contact our membership officer.

What do I need to know about acting or directing?

• If you're interested in taking part as a director, please let us know by clicking on the button at the bottom of the email. If you'd like to act in a short play, please come along to auditions. The key dates are TBC but are likely to be:

• Sun 27/4 2pm to 4pm Auditions

• Sun 18/5 12pm to 4pm Rehearsal 1

• Wed 21/5 8.30pm to 10.30pm Rehearsal 2

• Mon 26/5 4pm to 8pm Rehearsal 3

• Wed 28/5 8.30pm to 10.30pm Rehearsal 4

• Sun 1/6 12pm to 4pm Rehearsal 5

• Wed 4/6 8.30pm to 10.30pm Rehearsal 6

• Sat 7/6 and Sun 8/6 all day: tech and dress rehearsals and 4 performances
